What you need to know

Life is full of “wows.” And the occasional “whew.” To help with the latter, we offer additional insurance coverage through Unum: Critical Illness, hospital, accident, and long-term care. These benefit plans give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing you and your family have planned for the what-ifs and will be financially protected. Now, that’s at least worth a “whoa,” isn’t it?

Additional coverage for the unexpected

Your medical plan from Workday (or somewhere else) provides a lot of coverage for your ongoing care. But even the best medical plan won’t help you pay your rent, buy groceries, or get your chores done when you’re stuck in bed. That’s why you might want one or more of these plans in your pocket.

Here’s what they have in common:

  • The plans pay money directly to you, and—except for long-term care insurance—you decide how to spend it. Use it for your out-of-pocket medical expenses, like copays and deductibles—or for pizza delivery, if that’s part of your treatment plan.
  • The cost of the plans is deducted directly from your paycheck, so once you enroll, you don’t need to think about it again. Easy.
  • You may enroll in these plans only as a new hire, during Annual Enrollment, or if you have a qualifying life event.
  • You can take the coverage with you if you leave Workday or retire.
  • Critical illness insurance, hospital insurance, and accident insurance all offer a Wellness Benefit. For each of these insurance plans you’re enrolled in, you and each of your covered dependents on that plan can receive an annual incentive for getting a health screening test, such as the ones listed below. For 2024, it is $100.
    • Blood test
    • Chest X-ray
    • Stress test
    • Colonoscopy
    • Mammogram

Critical illness insurance

This plan pays you money if you’re diagnosed with a covered illness like a heart attack, stroke, cancer, or progressive disorder.

  • You may choose $10,000, $20,000, or $30,000 of coverage. If you enroll, your spouse may enroll in the same amount of coverage, and your dependent children are automatically enrolled at 50%.
  • You can use this coverage more than once. Even after you receive a payout for one illness, you’re still covered for the remaining conditions and for the reoccurrence of any critical illness, with some exceptions and limitations.
  • It’s more affordable when you buy this coverage through Workday.
  • You’re guaranteed coverage, without answering health questions.
  • Wellness Benefit: Receive $100 just for getting your regular health screenings.

Hospital insurance

This plan pays benefits if you or a family member are hospitalized for a covered accident, illness, or childbirth.

  • The plan pays $1,000 for each covered hospital admission, $100 for each day of your covered hospital stay (up to 60 days), and $150 for emergency room treatment for a covered accident—once per year.
  • You’re guaranteed coverage, without answering health questions.
  • Wellness Benefit: Receive $100 just for getting your regular health screenings.

Accident insurance

With this plan, you receive money if you’re injured and need treatment as the result of an accident that occurs outside of Workday.

Long-term care insurance

This is the coverage you’ll want to help cover expenses related to medical and other care if you have a chronic illness or disability. Care can be provided at home, in the community, in assisted living, or in a nursing home.

You can purchase a certain level of coverage without having to fill out evidence-of-insurability forms or get a health exam.

Spouses, domestic partners, adult children, siblings, parents, and grandparents may also apply, but they’ll be required to get a health exam.

Long-term disability (LTD)

If your illness or injury prevents you from working for longer than 52 weeks, your income is still protected. Lincoln Financial will check in with you about 26 weeks into your health leave to see how things are going. They’ll help you transition, if needed, from the Salary Continuation program to LTD. Beginning the 53rd week of your illness or injury, LTD pays 60% of your regular pay.
